Project Description The project undertaken by the team involved the repair and replacement of the Miller Sweeney Bridge Fender System, the replacement of the Dolphin Clusters and Access Pier, as well as the removal of the High Street Bridge Cable Tower, all located in Alameda County, California.
Major Challenges One of the major challenges faced by the project team was working in an active shipping channel right next to a four-lane single bascule bridge that could not be closed for more than 20 minutes at a time. This meant extensive planning and coordination was required to successfully remove 2 damaged dolphin piles and drive 24 new piles, some positioned just inches away from the existing bridge structure.
