Project Description
The Chevron Products Company has applied to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), San Francisco District, for a 10-year Department of the Army Permit to dredge approximately 1,500,000 cubic yards of sediment from the Richmond Long Wharf facility in Richmond, Contra Costa County, California. The purpose of the proposed dredging is to maintain the originally permitted design depths for commercial ships and support vessels using the Long Wharf.
Major Challenges
One of the major challenges is working closely with the owner while operations continue on the busy vessel during the berthing schedule.
Project Highlights
A key highlight of the project is successfully keeping one of the West Coast’s busiest oil berthing facilities operational and open to vessels during the limited environmental work window.
Project Scope
The applicant intends to remove an average of approximately 150,000 cubic yards per year, totaling 1,500,000 cubic yards over the course of 10 years, from the 44.1-acre area surrounding the Richmond Long Wharf facility. Detailed plans and drawings outlining the dredging operations are provided in the attached documentation.
