The work for Phase 4 of the Mobile Harbor, Alabama Project consisted of deepening and widening portions of the Middle Bay Channel beginning approximately 2 miles north of Gaillard Island thence southerly to a point approximately 1 mile south of the island.
Major Challenges One of the major challenges of this project is working within a very active but confined deep draft channel simultaneously with two dredges. Coordinating the operations of the two dredges in such a tight space, while avoiding disruptions to the busy shipping traffic, requires meticulous planning and execution by the project team.
Project Highlights A key project highlight is keeping the Mobile Harbor Deepening project on time and on budget while moving over 4 million cubic yards of material. This was achieved through the efficient deployment of resources, effective project management, and close collaboration with stakeholders to minimize delays and optimize productivity throughout the dredging operations.
Project Scope
The work consists of furnishing all labor, materials and equipment, and performing all work required for the prevention of environmental pollution during maintenance and new work dredging of the Mobile Harbor, Alabama federally authorized navigation project.
